Story of the Villa and the city
Of la Seyne-sur-mer :
In the Middle Ages, La Seyne-sur-Mer became in 1657 a full-fledged commune thanks to Louis XIV with already its port of commerce and fishing. 60 years later, it became a high place of shipbuilding until 1989 and protection of the military port of Toulon with Forts Balaguier, Eguillette and Napoleon.
It is today the 2nd biggest city of the Var with 63 000 inhabitants, just after Toulon. The old mechanical workshops have the project of being rehabilitated in cinema and shopping center. The tourist heart of the Seyne is at Sablettes where you will find restaurants (where you can taste the famous Tamaris mussels), shops, summer night market and its famous white sand beach. La Seyne-sur-mer is becoming more and more a privileged destination for cruisers with the new lines announced until Sardinia.
Famous people in La Seyne in the 19th and 20th centuries: Auguste Renoir, George Sand, Napoleon Bonaparte, Michel Pasha, François Hugo (eldest son of the famous writer), Gustave Eiffel, the Lumière brothers, Jean Cocteau, Colette, Pierre Dux, Louis Jouvet , François Mauriac, Paul Maurand ...
Of Tamaris:
Tamaris became the tourist destination of the "privileged" of the late nineteenth century thanks to the construction of the Tamaris district by Michel Pacha, with its 3 sumptuous Casinos ... The St-Tropez of the nineteenth century.
The district is unique in its geographical location and the eclectic architecture of Italian, oriental or even Swiss inspiration of its villas. Tamaris gives its name to seafood grown in the parks visible from the Villa: mussels, oysters, wolves / bass and sea bream.

Of the Villa:
The Villa was built before 1828, during the 1st Empire of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was a reception villa as soon as it was built, which we try to perpetuate!
Its name "Villa Terraces" is due to the North and South terraces from which you can observe the Bay of Toulon and the Bay of Lazaret.
At Villa Les Terrasses lived: Germaine Tailleferre, the only woman of the group "The Six" from 1925 to 1929, George Sand and the famous American cartoonist Ralph Barton, a great friend of Charlie Chaplin.
The Villa is a remarkable building listed in the Seynois heritage and National Heritage.
